Palma de Mallorca

Day 1 - Wednesday

Today was a very long day that started exciting, as all beginning of trips. Nervous that we had forgotten essentials, feeling paranoid about not knowing what to expect, but also very excited to be getting away and allowing oneself to relax.

We started off the day early as hell (5 AM) and arrived at the airport, first ones there, first in line - giving us a crazy amount of time in the lounge area before the flight; where we got to enjoy breakfast buffet and free drinks. Not only did I love my breakfast but i thought it was so fun that everyone started hauling alcoholic drinks - wine on the tap, beer on the tap, "let’s take some whisky shots!" "Ooh they have bailey", "Isa try some hot chocolate with rum" - definitely not the family trip feeling i usually have but very fun.

As we arrived, past the hard rock cafe and above the massage/hooker salons (which was hella weird), we arrived at our cozy cute apartment, where we stayed for a bit before we made our way to the beach by unstable bus, wobbling around like idiots, trying to stay put and avoiding falling over. It was cloudy, a little bit rainy, and  too cold to swim, but it was amazing to hear the ocean waves again, and to lie down and close my eyes as the relaxing, calming ocean breeze carressed my skin. We then had drinks at this cozy, super trendy, super Isa, surf cafe whilst the rain later started hauling down on the beach.

Despite coming home exhausted, we went out for dinner at this irish pub/restaurant which at first felt unwelcoming with the completely empty pub area -  but then when we were seated in this cozy private area, with a view of the marina and a menu with flavors from everywhere - it turned out amazing. I of course went asian with osc and we ate delicious steak with fried banana!!?? and thai salad, as well as vietnameses spring rolls and some tiny, tapas avocado-seaweed pizza

Day 2 - Thursday

Today was the first time in a while where I got to sleep in with no alarm, and I woke up refreshed - wanting to actually exercise before making home made breakfast.

After my surprisingly motivated morning, we accidentally went to see the palace (despite planning on going to the cathedral). It was fascinating to see the history and read the interesting stories from the past. It made me think a lot about how amazing people used to be, and the things they would dedicate their time on for the power (aka the royal family) at the time. We then continued through the city for the first time and went around ages trying to find a place to eat with Monica's restricted diet; which ended up being a Japanese restaurant where I couldn't help but drool over my great tempura rolls.

On the way to the restaurant, and after whilst walking around the city…
  • We walked past this cozy book shop/cafe that I could definitely imagine myself going back to to explore.

  • I fell in love with all the cozy street corners, cafes and the aesthetic of the whole place - the graffiti paintings and the colorful clothing and obnoxious shoes

  • We made our way to an awesome coffee shop - a cafe with expertise on coffee, providing us with a whole drink menu dedicated to coffee - we ended up drinking latte mocha, bailey frappe, and coffee mojito - which self-explanatorily sounds exotic - I just couldn’t help but fall for all these small details, I could’ve walked around for ages just looking around !!

  • We shopped at all the nice spanish stores - which inherently brought out my inner shopaholic again

We then finished the night off with nice company and home made spaghetti bolognese in our cozy, dim-lit apartment, sharing stories and fun, and watching the dictator - to which we laughed at the stupidity of it all

Day 3 - Monica’s birthday (Friday)

Today we slept in again and sadly woke up to bad weather. We ate a simple lunch at a restaurant nearby and luckily for me, we then went back to the city where I bought my obnoxious pink blazer I had been dreaming about since I saw it yesterday. With much planned for the evening, we didn't get much time out and hurried to the grocery store (have I mentioned how much I love looking and walking around foreign grocery stores, it's like become a fascination now and everything looked so fresh and new) and then home to get ready and drink blue, bubbly moscota before heading out again for dinner at the beautiful "Il Paradiso." As the sun was setting, we walked into this luxurious restaurant and couldn't help but take pictures at the beauty of it all. The fancy dining area, the balconies overbearing the crystal clear ocean view, and don't get me started on the food! Despite having too many options to choose from, I ordered Argentinian Beef Tenderloin with truffel sauce, foie gras and potatis gratin. Cooked medium rare, just the way i like it, the whole meal melted in my mouth like it was made for me. Even the desserts had me going crazy as I ate Swiss Meringue and tasted Creme Brule with saffran twist, panna cotta and tiramisu. The whole place - the location, the atmosphere, the food; all was to die for. Maybe it was the champagne, the wine, the limoncello, the atmosphere, or it all combined- but I couldn't help but leave the restaurant with a grin on my face and a pulsing high. As for after dinner, Monica showed us this amazing, hidden bar called Albarco - which was filled with statues, fruit baskets and historical music playing in the background. It was too cool! And to end the night with a boom, we finished of in a cozy, small bar in the city center - called Charmakra bar, where everything was hindu/buddhism themed, where the drinks were exotic and naked ladies and elephants were painted all over the walls.

Day 4 - Saturday

Today was the first day we went to the beach. It was a surprisingly long ride away from home, we even had to drive past the airport but we finally got to soak in the sun rays for hours and enjoy the (maybe a little too cold, but refreshing) crystal clear waters that made us all feel like kings and queens.

Later, exhausted from frying in the sun, we had cozy dinner at home and me and Oscar went for gelato close to the apartment and took a cozy walk along the harbor, just enjoying each other's companies - and ofcourse, concentrating hard on not leaving any of 3 ice cream scoops unturned or unexplored.

Day 5 - Sunday

Started the day with a run, intervals and brunch with Oscar at a cute brunch restaurant called Santina (which made me think of what I would love to work with in the future). Despite it being 9 in the morning, I couldn’t help but eat delicious poke-bowl and drink fresh lemonade.

After our little getaway we went to a new beach (called  Platja de Portals Nous), my favorite beach so far, and repeated the typical beach day - frying in the sun, getting drinks and dipping ourselves in the cold waters.

 Day 6  - Monday

To get a little break from the frying (sounds so spoiled to even say so), we went back to Palma center to finally go see the cathedral, and go shopping once again. I was happy we didn’t miss the cathedral, as it was more beautiful than I had expected - just the sight of it all almost made me religious. I often just sat, and stared in awe. As we later went into the city we went to Bershka, Stradivarius, Brownie and this epic t-shirt store called Typografia that Roger and Monica had been talking about since the beginning of the trip. Whilst walking I saw this amazing tapas place called "Tramuntana" that I will one day get back to. As for lunch we went back to Darume Japanese restaurant and ordered a big ass boat full of sushi to share. To finish of the day we even went to this jaw-dropping rooftop bar of a hotel which had such an extraordinary view over the city - with the cathedral and the marina clearly seen.

In the evening after taking a 30 min bus ride to a tapas place that was annoyingly closed,  we walked 25 min (hungry as hell) to a super cozy restaurant where I had amazing ricotta filled ravioli, served with truffle sauce and mushrooms that met my mouth like a magnet to a metal.

Day 7 - Tuesday

Today was our last real vacation day and we started it off by making delicious French toast and eating breakfast all together in Roger and Monica’s apartment. Not wanting to miss a single second of our last day, we hurried away pretty early to this secluded beach called Il Leto?? with beautiful crystal clear waters and thankfully  no unnecessary tourist shops. We slept, relaxed and enjoyed the last bit of sun on the beach. And we even got to see what we believe to be models, pose in their bootylicious bikinis before we headed off to the beach restaurant for lunch. At lunch. we were really disappointed by the rip off food, but I couldn’t help but love the sangria that hade me almost too tipsy at the beach

Last but not least we ended the day off by going back into the city for a quick pick up of clothes, the newly enforced shopaholic (me) had been wanting to buy, ate take- away dinner at phad-thai wok and played five crowns before stress-packing.

Day 8 - Wednesday (our last day)

Today the sun was shining and it was 26 degrees outside, which made it hard, no, nearly impossible to want to go home. Almost tempting to ask the taxi to head towards the beach instead of the airport, I sat and thought about all the fun we had this week and how it makes me a bit sad to think of all the things we (or I) will miss from Mallorca that I won't be able to get in Sweden - the food, the atmosphere, the climate, the aesthetic, the feeling of utter vacation, but maybe most of all - being able to fall asleep in bed with Oscar every night and the spending of each little moment together.

After the smooth flight home, in the taxi to Oscar’s, I couldn’t help but cry a little… maybe because it felt weird having to leave Oscar for a couple days, maybe because of PMS, maybe because vacation was over, but nonetheless, I knew I already missed Mallorca.

That’s all for this trip!

Now it's back to work for a little bit, but very soon, I'm off again to Holland.
